What is Loading in Production Planning and Control?
In planning production, shop orders have to be converted into workload on individual work machines or groups of machines.

Importance of loading:

The production manager must know the loading on each equipment/machine in order to determine whether capacity utilization is full or otherwise. He should also identify overloads and under-loads on each machine to assist production planning to balance the load.

Manual system:

Manual systems are generally used to load operations against actual capacity by creating a bar chart on a load board. The design of the loading board is made to suit the specific needs of the system.

The board comprises of a list of resources (machines) on the left, a time scale across the top, and bars of different lengths against each resource to indicate the extent of loading.
